The Effect of Thoughts on Your Purpose

Until thought is linked with purpose there is no intelligent accomplishment. With the majority of people, their thoughts are allowed to drift, like a boat on the ocean. Living without a purpose is a bad habit.  To avoid catastrophe and destruction, a man should avoid an aimless life.

A major mistake many people make is to go through life without knowing their purpose.  God has created everyone with a purpose.  Yet, not all find it.  Many who drift through life, are carried along by the wind.  For some, the wind carries them nowhere.  For others, their lives end up like a shipwreck.  God told Moses He had raised him up for the very purpose he was fulfilling in delivering Israel from slavery.  Jeremiah was told that God knew him before he was born and set him apart as a prophet (Jeremiah 1:5).

Those who have no central purpose in their life fall easy prey to petty worries, fears, troubles, and self-pitying.  These are all indications of weakness.  As surely as deliberate sins, this weakness will lead to failure, unhappiness, and loss.  Weakness cannot persist in a power evolving universe.

Each man and woman has a choice.  In Proverbs 19:21 is written; “…it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”.  It’s up to each man and woman to discover what God’s purpose is for their life.  Without discovering God’s purpose, one is left alone, in the wilderness, to be a prey for others’ purposes for you or the purposes of the devil who “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. His purpose should be the central point of his thoughts. It may be a spiritual purpose or a marketplace purpose.  Either purpose is spiritual.  No matter what it is, he should steadily focus his thoughts on the purpose he has set before him.

The man should focus on his purpose, instead of allowing his thoughts to wander into fantasies.  This is the key to self-control and true concentration of thought. Even if he fails again and again to accomplish his purpose (as he necessarily must until weakness is overcome), the strength of character gained will be the measure of his true success.  This will form a new starting-point for future power and triumph.

Jesus very clearly knew His purpose and mission.  He knew exactly why He was born.  This is why He couldn't be distracted.  As a result, He was able to triumph over Satan and even conquer death.  In the same way, it's up to you to discover and know your purpose.

Even if you’re not prepared to great purpose, you should fix your thoughts on the performance of your duty.  There is no task that is insignificant. One should always work as if they’re working for the Lord.  Jesus makes every task worthy of honor.  By focusing your thoughts and energy there is nothing you can do.

If one at first fails, over and over, yet believes ‘that strength can only be developed by effort and practice, will at once begin to exert himself, with continued effort, patience and strength, will grow divinely strong.

As the physically weak man can make himself strong by training, the man of weak thoughts can make himself strong by exercising himself in right thinking. Paul addressed right-thinking very powerfully.  In 2 Corinthians, Paul not only wrote about right-thinking but even keeping our thoughts captive to Christ.  He's talking about keeping our thought captive to the mind of Christ.  He wrote; "the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.  On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

Those who think with purpose, enter the ranks of the strong.  They recognize failure as a path to success and make all conditions serve them.  They’re strong, are fearless and accomplish things very skillfully.

Jesus was the master in thinking with purpose.  He said He was sent to only the lost sheep of Israel (Mt. 15:24).  He came to seek and save that which was lost (Luke 19:10”).

Paul said, "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God called me…" (Philippians 3:13-14).  Don't live and think aimlessly which leads to nowhere, but think and live with purpose and you will accomplish much.

Once a man has discovered his purpose, he should set out on a straight path to achieving his goal.   Doubts and fears should be discarded.  They serve no purpose but to break up the straight line of effort, making it useless.  Thoughts of doubt and fear never accomplished anything.  They always lead to failure. Purpose, energy, empowerment along with focused thoughts cease when doubt and fear creep in.

When we discover we can accomplish our purpose, the will to do it comes forth.  Doubt and fear are the great enemies of accomplishment.  The one who harbors them, hinders himself at every step. You will be tempted to fear.  Fear and doubt will constantly stalk you.  It will wait for a time to snare you.  But, always remember, “fear of man will prove to be a snare” but “perfect love drives out all fear (Proverbs 29:25, 1 John 4:18).  Don’t let fear and doubt ensnare you and keep you from your purpose.  Just remember all things are possible to one who believes.

The one who has conquered doubt and fear has conquered failure. His every, thought is powerful, and all difficulties are bravely met and wisely overcome. Her purposes are planted in season, and they bloom and bring forth good fruit.

Thought allied fearlessly with purpose becomes a creative force. The one who knows this becomes something higher than a bundle of wavering thoughts.  This person has become the conscious and intelligent wielder of his/her mental powers. Just remember you can do all things through Him who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
